Expectation keeps it moving inside one person.
A reply still seems possible.
An explanation remains due.
Old intensity becomes evidence that something must return.
The mind waits for a final event.
An apology.
A refusal.
Anything clear enough to count.
Silence feels temporary.
Absence stays unfinished.
Grief is delayed, not prevented.
One loss may be the person.
Another arrives when the imagined return is finally allowed to die.
Sometimes the last part of an ending is accepting that it does not owe anyone one more thing.
