THE HOUSE OF ZAN — Zan

“You had me at hello.”
— Jerry Maguire

A greeting leaves almost everything unanswered.
That emptiness can feel like possibility.
One good exchange suggests kindness.
Quick replies become interest.
Even silence starts meaning something.
Very little is known.
That gives imagination more room.
The stranger has not disagreed with the version forming around them.
They have not revealed bad timing.
Selfishness.
A life that does not fit the plan.
Desire fills the gaps with whatever keeps it alive.
The result can look like recognition before either person has been seen.
Then details arrive.
Their wants.
Their limits.
Their future does not match the one already written.
Disappointment can begin before anyone does anything wrong.
They may not have become less promising.
Only less imaginary.
Sometimes the person known least is easiest to want because reality has had fewer chances to answer the fantasy.
