Mars Bars… (1-20) — An Analysis

THE BLACKLIGHT // DEVELOPER CONSOLE

SOURCE LOADED: Mars Bars (Naked Eye)…

————————

INPUT

The opening asks for evidence.

“You want credentials?

Fine.”

Then comes the résumé.

Industry after industry.

Construction.

Nonprofits.

Politics.

Medicine.

Law.

Technology.

Education.

Hospitality.

Design.

Software.

Then more.

The list is introduced as:

“just a humble taste”

which is an unusual description for something this difficult to overlook.

The understatement matters less than what the list is actually doing.

It turns a claim into evidence.

The voice does not simply say:

I know what I am doing.

It produces a history meant to support that statement.

————————

MECHANISM

The system converts experience into proof.

Then the entire résumé is reduced to one transferable function:

Helping people be seen, chosen, and remembered.

Three stages.

Seen.

Chosen.

Remembered.

They are not interchangeable.

Something has to become visible before it can be selected.

Selection does not guarantee permanence.

Recognition begins the process.

The industries change.

That problem does not.

————————

VARIABLES

The system changes depending on whether value exists before recognition.

Later, the same distinction becomes more precise:

“Knowing when someone is worth more than they are asking.

Knowing how to make everyone else notice.”

Worth and notice have been separated.

Something can possess value without being recognized as valuable.

It can be priced incorrectly.

Presented poorly.

Overlooked.

Misunderstood.

The claimed expertise exists between those conditions.

First, recognize value.

Then make recognition spread.

That is why the language keeps returning to sight.

“seen”

“notice”

“watching”

“I already see where you could go

“You might not see it yet.”

I do.

“Show me…”

“Let me see…”

“we can see…”

“visible to the naked eye”

The business vocabulary eventually gives way to perception.

The authority being claimed is not merely technical knowledge.

It is an ability to see something before other people see it.

————————

CONDITIONS

The system behaves differently when recognition itself becomes a form of power.

That becomes the meaning carried by:

queen-maker

The title is immediately defended.

“I don’t say it to impress you.

I say it because I’ve done it…”

Again, a label is not allowed to support itself.

Queen-maker requires evidence beneath the word.

That repeats the opening.

Credentials were requested.

A résumé appeared.

Now a grander title appears.

Past action is offered to justify it.

Then the same standard is applied to somebody else.

“don’t just tell me you’re ‘motivated.’

Show me what you’re already doing.

What you’ve tried.

Where you’re stuck.”

That is almost the same test.

Do not tell me what you are.

Show me what supports the claim.

The voice has already done that for itself.

Professional is supported by the résumé.

Queen-maker is supported by “I’ve done it.”

Motivated must be supported by existing effort.

A word is never quite enough.

There has to be residue underneath it.

————————

DEBUG LOG

Detected: Claims were supported by evidence before being treated as credible.

Updated: Value was separated from visibility.

Flagged: Recognition creates influence because the person who sees potential first controls the interpretation of that potential.

Reclassified: Expertise was not created by the résumé; the résumé attempted to make existing expertise visible.

————————

CURRENT STATE

That makes the enormous opening list more important than simple bragging.

It establishes the evidentiary rule that will later be imposed on the person receiving the offer.

Then sight returns.

Let me see what you have to work with.

The claimed ability does not begin with nothing.

There must already be something present.

Attempts.

Work.

Problems.

Possibility.

The voice claims to recognize what those materials could become.

“If I make you an offer,

it’s because I already see where you could go.

You might not see it yet.

That’s fine.

I do.

That creates an imbalance in perception.

One person supposedly possesses potential.

The other claims to recognize it first.

The value already exists.

The recognition arrives unevenly.

That is exactly the earlier business problem:

“someone is worth more than they are asking”

followed by:

“make everyone else notice.”

The potential person has now entered the same structure.

They may contain more value than their current presentation reveals.

The voice claims to see the difference.

But then:

“Show me what you’re already doing.”

The vision still requires evidence.

Potential cannot be entirely imaginary.

Something already has to exist for the eye to find.

Then:

“Then we can see what I can do with it.”

The pronouns change.

Earlier:

I see.

You might not see.

Then:

Show me.

Let me see.

Finally:

we can see.

Shared sight arrives only after something has been shown.

That is important because the relationship does not begin with agreement about what is possible.

One person claims to see farther.

The other supplies the material that can prove or disprove the claim.

Then comes the final sentence:

“By now, I would have thought all of this would be visible to the naked eye.”

That returns to the problem that created the résumé.

If the expertise were already visible, why were credentials necessary?

The opening had to make something unseen become legible.

A long professional history was presented.

Its transferable skill was named.

Its methods were listed.

Its title was defended.

Its evidence was supplied.

Only then does the voice suggest that the result should have been obvious.

That places the speaker inside the same mechanism being described.

Someone may possess value before other people recognize it.

Someone may need help making that value visible.

The voice claims to perform that function for others.

Here, it performs it for itself.

The résumé does not create the claimed expertise.

It tries to make everyone else notice.

Before trusting someone who claims to see your potential, ask what evidence they can see that you can verify for yourself.
