INPUT
Seven uses of what.
Only one is given a question mark.
The first three lines come in pairs:
What was, what is.
What happens before, what happens after.
What might be, what will be.
Each pair changes the measurement.
Was and is divide time into states.
Before and after establish sequence.
Might and will separate possibility from expectation.
Past.
Present.
Sequence.
Future.
Almost everything has somewhere to go.
Except the person asking.

MECHANISM
The system organizes information without initially identifying the subject experiencing it.
There is no I in any of the first six fragments.
No you either.
Nothing identifies exactly what all this time belongs to.
The words can circle what was, what is, what happened around something, and what may happen next without ever naming the thing being followed.
Then the pattern breaks.
What am I now?
The seventh what stands alone.
The period becomes a question mark.
For the first time, the sentence has a person inside it.
I.
That single pronoun changes what came before without completely explaining it.

VARIABLES
The meaning changes depending on what the timeline is measuring.
Maybe what was referred to circumstances.
Maybe it referred to a relationship.
Maybe it referred to the self.
The language never says.
Once “What am I now?” appears, every earlier possibility can suddenly be reread through that final question.
Something else has already happened to now.
The opening contains:
what is.
The present was available from the beginning.
But knowing what is does not answer what am I now?
Those are different kinds of knowledge.

CONDITIONS
The system behaves differently when observation becomes identity.
One can establish the state of things.
The other asks what the passage through those things has done to the person experiencing them.
That makes the final line different from merely reaching the present at the end of a timeline.
The timeline had already reached the present in the first line.
It had also moved backward, forward, before, after, into possibility, and toward whatever will follow.
Then it returns to now for a different reason.
Not:
What is happening now?
But:
What am I now?

DEBUG LOG
Detected: Time can be organized without identifying the person moving through it.
Updated: The present state of the world was separated from the present state of the self.
Flagged: The missing subject remained hidden until the final question.
Reclassified: “Now” became an identity question rather than a time marker.

CURRENT STATE
The smallest line is the only one that cannot remain impersonal.
Six fragments arrange time without naming who belongs inside it.
The seventh finally supplies the missing subject.
It does not supply the answer.
Before deciding what comes next, separate what changed around you from what changed in you.
