VOICE ADVISORY: The speaking voice is confident invitation confronting the difference between wanting a relationship and wanting an idea of one. Contains themes of online dating, standards, self-presentation, fantasy, sexual expectations, and reciprocal worth.

So, you want to enter into something real with another person?

Wonderful!

THE END.

Oh… you say you don’t want to just be with anyone

you have standards and self-respect

you want something real, worth your time, and not just about the sex aspect…

The uninformed, but polite, may think:

“Wow, that’s a lot of expectations from someone who hasn’t even met you yet.”

Let me interject:

YES.

YES THEY ARE.

However, I believe those same expectations are valid for the person on the other side of the screen.

Plus much, much more.

I hope to prove, through some slopped together words, why I am God’s gift to women…

I mean, why I am worthy of your time, respect, and trust.

Before any of that can happen, we submit something else first.

An idea of ourselves.

A profile.

A photograph.

A confession of how we see ourselves, shaped by how we want others to see us.

Enough of ourselves to be wanted.

Not enough to be truly known.

We give someone enough to imagine the rest.

Maybe the first thing we give away is control over who they think we are.

Maybe that’s the first gift.

Not ourselves.

The possibility of us.

But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Let’s go back a bit.

When first discovering what we want from another person, I believe most of us fall in love with a concept, not a person.

A concept that we discovered, in its purest form, through some other whimsical place.

A story. A song. A movie.

A live action role-playing event.

Someone else’s relationship.

Before another person arrives, the concept is perfect.

It has no bad timing.

No contradictions.

No needs of its own.

No expectations of us.

How do we make these feelings, that are so personal and freeing, become a reality?

Through the presence of other people.

Insert Michael Scott “No God Please No” Meme

They ruin everything.

They also make it real.

Eventually, the concept has to become a person.

Not a place.

Not a thing.

A person.

Making sense of the noun-sense.
